Research Project

Molecular & Cellular Biology of Plant Secondary Metabolism
Validation of Natural Medicines
Clinical Pharmacology of Kampo Medicines

We are performing the study that aimed at the productive efficiency of plant secondary metabolites and new bioactive compounds by evaluating biosynthesis, enzymatic isolation and functional analysis using various plant culture cells, and by analyzing the characteristics of those biosynthetic enzymes in molecular level. And in order to preserve the quality of botanical medicine and dietary supplements, we are trying to develop the methods using gene peculiar to a plant as well as a conventional chemical index component. We are also studying the evidences of kampo or traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) using experimental animal models for chronic disease, allergic diseses and stress disorders using pharmacological, pharmacolinetic and pharmacodynamic approaches. Furthermore, we are supplying the drug information of kampo and TCM such as drug interaction with Western medicine, or pharmacokinetics of the composition of kampo or TCM.
(1) Culture of Lithospermum erythrorhizon
(2) Gene profile of Atractyloidis lancea
Name of crude drug: So-jutsu (Atractyloidis lanceae rhizoma)
Pharmacology in TCM: Resolving and eliminating dampness with aromatics, dispelling wind, strengthening the spleen
(3)Effectiveness of Juzen-taiho-to on ear dermatitis.
light: control, right: Juzen-taiho-to-treatment
